Bradley Williamson is the CEO of Treasure Expeditions and we dig into his parallel interests in treasure hunting and genetic engineering.

UTC 163 Shawn Cowles of Treasure Quest

Shawn Cowles of Treasure Quest
Shawn Cowles is a long time treasure hunter who started with Mel Fisher’s organization diving the Atocha.  Since then he’s branched off on his own including hosting the Discover Channel show Treasure Quest.

We dig into Shawn’s origin story including a fortuitous meeting with Mel Fisher himself. You’ll hear a harrowing tale of one particular dive. And we dive into what he’s had to learn in his new land-based treasure hunt for the Sacambaya treasure in Bolivia.

Plus we’ll do a little catch up with Dan Clark and Mark Axton of the Swashbuckler’s Ball in Portland, Oregon before their annual event this weekend.

UTC 104 Underwater Archaeologist Dr E. Lee Spence

Dr E. Lee Spence

Dr E. Lee Spence is an underwater archaeologist and one of the first people to get a university degree for that work.  He’s found hundreds of shipwrecks since finding his first in 1959 at age 12 with homegrown dive gear.

His most famous discoveries are the Hunley and the Georgiana. We discuss both.  Of course plenty of piratey goodness too.

And it wouldn’t be a diver episode without some near death experience type stories.  Lee has a couple doozies to tell us here.

Don’t forget to check out the bonus content in the player below. We go way off the beaten path and talk about who the real Rhett Butler is from Gone With The Wind.  It’s an interesting story and only about 9 minutes long.
