Lou Hernandez aka Cutthroat Cortez of Pirates Plunder

Lou Hernandez aka Cutthroat Cortez of Pirates Plunder is living an enviable life. He’s a pirate because it’s fun and because he wants to. And he’s using his pirate character to put good things in the world and help others.

And for my final show as host, Lou is the perfect guest. He’s exactly the kind of person that makes the pirate community great. Creative, supportive, and genuine.

In this episode:

How Lou went from being a cowboy to a pirate
Their mission to educate and entertain kids, especially sick children
How he’s building his crew out to be an event planning company by saying yes and figuring out how to do it

Starting next week Nick Hoffman will be taking over the show. You may still hear from me periodically when any of my new projects intersect with pirate culture. It’s been my privilege to create this show for you for the last 4 years and I hope you’ll come along on the ride to my further adventures.

Thank you so much for spending your time with me each week and introducing me to so many great people along the way.

Richard Rasner of Clan Darksail
Richard Rasner aka Damashi D’Gascoigne is the head of Clan Darksail out of Southern California.

We’ll dig into the group’s origins and the breadth of gigs they do from private parties to high end film work like “Master and Commander”.

Richard is also an expert on quartermasters, so we’ll find out what that’s all about. And we talk a bit more about “The Pirate Captain Toledano” which they were also involved in.

A bit of an experimental episode this week when I asked on the UTC Facebook page “Any pirates in SLO?” and Randy Moore and Brandon Harrison of the Northstar Penguins leapt to the challenge. 🙂

And “Penguins” is not a typo. They’ll tell you the story.

Usually I’m better prepared for an interview but went in cold on this one. Turns out Brandon and Randy are great guys and we had a great talk sitting on the patio outside the Lexington Inn in SLO.

And a guest co-host this week! Comedian Laura Hayden sits in to learn about pirate festivals and now she wants to go to them. Check out the video of Laura in her natural comedic habitat below.
