UTC 016 – Chris Macort of the Whydah Pirate Museum

Chris Macort Whydah Pirate MuseumChris Macort is the curator of the Whydah Pirate Museum in Provincetown, MA.  He’s also a wreck diver and treasure hunter who’d helped excavate the Whydah and protect the artifacts they’ve brought up.

The Whydah is the first positively ID’d pirate ship to be found.  It was Sam Bellamy’s ship that went down in 1717 in a huge storm off the coast of Cape Cod.  Barry Clifford found the ship in 1984 and Chris Macort joined the team a few years later.

We go deep on conservation techniques for the different types of items brought back to the surface.  And you’ll love hearing about the first time Chris held real pirate treasure in his hands.  Really great interview with some mind-blowing news about his current project.  You’re going to do dig this one.

Also on the show today, comedy from Mike Brody and Roem Baur’s new single “Oh Dear”.

UTC 015 – Tiger Lee of PirateFashions.com

Tiger Lee of PirateFashions.comTiger Lee is quite the self-made man. We’ll journey from his origins as a fairy photographer to the depths of the Caribbean and into Florida where he found his calling in creating authentic pirate clothing and weaponry.

Lots of detailed discussion on what is and isn’t authentic pirate clothing.  So plenty for you costuming geeks out there.  Plus stuff about the old timey picture studio business that I never knew about.

Also on the show today, comedy from Phil Johnson (that’s me!) and music from Ye Banished Privateers.
The bit from me is from 2008 and it was a little painful listening back to it. I should probably write some new pirate material. 🙂

As I mentioned during the show, a few folks have contacted me about supporting the show financially. So I’ve put up a few options here.  You can donate (whatever amount you’d like), click the Amazon banners (no cost to you), or get some exposure for your business by being a sponsor (dirt cheap right now).

And something a little more recent from my standup oeuvre.

UTC 014 – Joyce Mclean of Pirate Legends of the Gulf Coast

Joyce Mclean of Pirates! Legends of the Gulf CoastJoyce Mclean is totally a pirate.  She’s made her way through an unorthodox series of businesses to find herself in Galveston, TX as owner or a really cool pirate experience called Pirates! Legends of the Gulf Coast.  If you get near Galveston be sure to stop in and see what she’s got in store for you.

She’s also the first officially licensed sea captain I’ve had on the show.  Boy is that a heck of story.   Be sure to listen for that one.  And it’s Gulf Coast talk, so you know there are some Jean Lafitte stories afoot.  Get it?  Lafitte afoot.  Sorry.

Also on the show today, comedy from Sampson McCormick and music from Seratonic.  This is the first time I’m including comedy that’s got an adult edge to it.  I’ll always keep it high quality.  But you can tune out before it comes on if you’re skittish about that kind of thing or if you have kids with you.

Drop a note in the comments and let me know what you think.
