Brian Fields of Pirates of Emerson Brian Fields had “the Halloween House” on his block as a kid. It eventually grew to have a lot of pirate stuff. It also eventually got too big for its britches and had to become a much larger, much scarier event that turned into Brian’s full time gig.

Pirates of Emerson is now the premiere haunt in Northern California and includes 5 haunted attractions, music, performers, and all sorts of other ghoulish delights.

I’ve been trying to get Brian in for a talk for a long time now and we finally made it happen! You’ll love his story of how he took his childhood Halloween hobby to the big time.

Here’s the new pirate hat I got for my birthday. Might have to wear it to the festivals. 🙂

Hear my new single “I Wanna Rock (Socially Responsibly) at https://roadsideattraction.bandcamp.com/track/i-wanna-rock-socially-responsibly or on your favorite streaming service.

And here’s the lyric video for the song. Bonus points if you get the “1 2 3 4” visual joke. It’s my favorite thing I’ve created that nobody will understand. 🙂

Todd Willis of The Loose Cannon Company
Todd Willis grew up as a pirate. Or at least that’s what his mom told him. And he took it to heart. Now he’s a re-enactor and leader of the popular east coast pirate entertainment group The Loose Cannon Company.

We talk about how he got there, how he wrangles a disparate group of pirates into a cohesive whole, and how to raise your kids as responsible pirates when you’re dressing them up as criminals. And lots of great info about the pirate scene and fest in Beaufort, NC.

Plus why it’s called The Loose Cannon Company, birthday food, Spotify lameness, my new single (listen to it below), and the proverbial “more”!

Here’s my new single. It’s an update on the 1980’s hard rock of my youth with a more modern mindset.I Wanna Rock (Socially Responsibly) by Phil Johnson and Roadside Attraction

'Quest For Blackbeard' author Baylus Brooks

Baylus Brooks has done a lot of new research into the life and career of Edward “Blackbeard” Teach and presents it in his new book “Quest For Blackbeard”.

As history’s most famous pirate, Blackbeard has led many to dig into his life for details of his exploits. Was he a bloodthirsty pirate or a successful businessman? Outlaw or backed by land-based merchants?

All that and more apparently. And Baylus Brooks has some interesting information he’s gleaned from his research. In our interview we dig into a bunch of stuff about our famous pirate’s past that you probably haven’t heard about before.

We’ll talk about some of his other books as well. But Baylus tells us the new one is the place to be for all the his most up to date info.
