Scott Graham of Pirates 365

Scott Graham is the host and resident pirate fan of Pirates 365 on YouTube. In the many dozens of videos he digs deep into every aspect of Pirates of the Caribbean. We’re talking rides, movies, toys, video games, the whole shebang.

In our talk we dig into idea generation and how he comes up with some much stuff to post. Not to mention how to get through the days when we’re not feeling up to putting something new together. (Hint: You, dear listener, are why we do it…)

And of course, we dork out hard about Disney and Pirates of the Caribbean!

Today’s show is sponsored by:

Here’s the “On Stranger Tides” Tag video we spoke about during the show.

And since I mentioned Henry Phillips, here’s some of his work.

Greg Engel of Arrr Ink

Greg Engel aka Oddly O’Differous is the captain (because he’s got the red coat) of Arrr Ink, a pirate comedy troupe that you can see at a variety of pirate fests in the Southeast US.

Like many of the groups we’ve talked to, Arrr Ink is a family affair with Greg’s wife, sister, and brother in law getting in on the action.

We both do comedy, but in drastically different worlds. So we dig into all sorts of good comedy talk about atmosphere, venue, level of appropriateness, etc. You’ll hear that he’s waaaaay better with kids than I am. 🙂 I’m constantly amazed at the amount of work pirate performers put in. And Arrr Ink is no exception.

Here’s some of the amateur video of Johnny Depp playing with riders on Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland that I talked about. More schtick and less girls (s)creaming. I think it’s interesting that even with these new fangled phone camers, the color of the ride still looks like the old 1960’s films of it. The official Disney vid definitely had a lot of color correction done.

Here’s the official Disney one for comparison. Looks better but, ya know…

Whoever came up with this idea should get a bonus though. Huge amount of free promotion for the new movie.

Marck Forget of Festival des Pirates

Marck Forget is a huge promoter of pirate entertainment in Canada. He’s one of those guys whose name I’d seen around the pirate communities online and it was great fun to finally talk with him and hear about all his different projects.

Festival des Pirates is an online pirate festival helping to promote various pirate folk the world over. Marck and his team are doing great stuff to bring pirate entertainment to the masses.

He’s got an online magazine, a Pirate of the Day photo, a pirate map the world, and lots more to come including a new pirate podcast! Marck is about to become the Rupert Murdoch of the pirate world. But with less sleaziness and phone hacking.

And we’ll dig into Marck’s pirate past and how a trip to Florida ignited a love of piracy in him and why.

You’ll enjoy this fun talk. We even devise a plan for a pirate invasion of the world’s largest comedy festival. 🙂
