Laura Sook Duncombe is the author of “Pirate Women: The Princesses, Prostitutes, and Privateers Who Ruled The Seven Seas”. Â It’s a fantastic book about female pirates throughout history, both in fact and fiction.
I got a ton of new info in my brain from this book and from my talk with Laura and I know you’ll dig it too.  She’s done all the research so you don’t have to. 🙂
Viking pirate ladies? Â Check. Â Some Anne Bonny and Mary Read talk? Â Check. Â Cheng I Sao? Â Check. Â And tons more you had no idea ever existed. Â Sayyida al-Hurra of the Barbar Corsairs? Â That’s the just the beginning.
We also talk the issues of factual vs fictional characters and how to not create fake history.
Cosmopolitan Magazine rated ‘Pirate Women’ as the #1 book to read in 2017. Â And you may have heard Laura on This American Life (along with Mark Hanna) in their recent pirate episode.

Sounds like an awesome book! And, I agree all too well that there’s too much fantasy out there taken as actual history. It’s almost out of control! Thanks for putting Laura on Crossbones!
Thanks Baylus! Glad you liked the episode. 🙂
