UTC 081 Brian Fields of Pirates of Emerson

Brian Fields of Pirates of EmersonBrian Fields had “the Halloween House” on his block as a kid.  It eventually grew to have a lot of pirate stuff.  It also eventually got too big for its britches and had to become a much larger, much scarier event that turned into Brian’s full time gig.

Pirates of Emerson is now the premiere haunt in Northern California and includes 5 haunted attractions, music, performers, and all sorts of other ghoulish delights.

I’ve been trying to get Brian in for a talk for a long time now and we finally made it happen! You’ll love his story of how he took his childhood Halloween hobby to the big time.

Today’s show is sponsored by:

Pirate Radio of the Treasure Coast – The best in pirate talk and music! Get to listenin’!

Here’s the new pirate hat I got for my birthday.  Might have to wear it to the festivals. 🙂

Hear my new single “I Wanna Rock (Socially Responsibly) at https://roadsideattraction.bandcamp.com/track/i-wanna-rock-socially-responsibly or on your favorite streaming service.

And here’s the lyric video for the song.  Bonus points if you get the “1 2 3 4” visual joke.  It’s my favorite thing I’ve created that nobody will understand. 🙂

UTC 058 – Talk Like A Pirate Day 2016 Live In Burbank

UTC 058 - Talk Like A Pirate Day 2016 Live in BurbankOur first live episode!   We invade the Story Tavern in Burbank, CA to celebrate Talk Like A Pirate Day 2016!

Chris Roberts is the owner of Pirate Art Design in Los Angeles, CA.  They do set design for loads of cool Hollywood Stuff.  And Chris was nice enough to host us at this TLAPD event in Burbank.

Scott Rogers is a former Disney Imagineer, game designer, and author.  He’s got some great stories about the back end workings of Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland.

Carlos Ragas is the lead actor of Pirates Dinner Adventure in Anaheim and a graduate of the Ringling Bros clown university.

These dudes are all major pirate fans who have let their love of the buccaneer guide their careers over the years.

Thanks to Ryan and Jon for coming out to hang with us.  And to the other people in attendance who didn’t know there was going to be a live podcast, but played along anyway. 🙂

Plus comedy from the Jay P. Brown and the International Pirate Award winning song “Hangman’s Jig” by Cap’n Tor and the Naer-Do-Well Cads Pirate Invasion.

UTC 031 – Imagineer and Pirates of the Caribbean Author Jason Surrell

Jason Surrell - Pirate of the Caribbean Author and ImagineerJason Surrell is a theme park show designer – former Imagineer, now with Universal – and the author of “Pirates of the Caribbean: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies”.

He was deeply involved with adding the new film characters to the classic Pirates of the Caribbean theme park rides and we talk about how they did that to avoid alienating the hardcore classic fans.

We also get into what working with Johnny Depp on the set is really like, what X Atencio told him that made him nearly drive off the road, and how he got into trouble with Marty Sklar after writing the book.  Tons of fun stories in here.

This episode sponsored by:
Southern Yellow Pine Publishing, home of The Pirate of Panther Bay series by SR Staley.

Plus comedy from DJ Sandhu about being guys at the club and a song called “Spanish Lady” by Pride of Bedlam.
