Sydney Treasure Hunt is an experience designed by Gillian Opie that uses pirates for team building. The whole thing sounds super fun. And she’s managed to build a great pirate ship business of her own.

This is a great example of the diversity in the pirate community. And since everyone loves a pirate, it’s a great way of getting normal people involved too. We also talk about how the pirate with the microphone can say anything they want without repercussions.

As you’ll hear in the interview, Jillian did like many pirates and jumped off into the unknown hoping it would all work out. Unlike most classical pirates, it actually did. 🙂

Also on the show today, comedy about weddings from Michael Somerville. I worked with Michael recently at Zanies in Rosemont, IL. Very funny dude and you may have caught one of his 4 appearances on Letterman. And a song called “Follow Your Heart” from Katie Garibaldi. Chris Macort is the curator of the Whydah Pirate Museum in Provincetown, MA. He’s also a wreck diver and treasure hunter who’d helped excavate the Whydah and protect the artifacts they’ve brought up.

The Whydah is the first positively ID’d pirate ship to be found. It was Sam Bellamy’s ship that went down in 1717 in a huge storm off the coast of Cape Cod. Barry Clifford found the ship in 1984 and Chris Macort joined the team a few years later.

We go deep on conservation techniques for the different types of items brought back to the surface. And you’ll love hearing about the first time Chris held real pirate treasure in his hands. Really great interview with some mind-blowing news about his current project. You’re going to do dig this one.
