UTC 038 – Co-Creator of ‘A Pirate’s Tale’ Shaun Rolly

Shaun Rolly of A Pirate's TaleShaun Rolly is the co-creator of the musical “A Pirate’s Tale”.  He’s a really fun and interesting pirate with a knack for jumping off the deep end without a plan.  Get learned up on what happens at stuntman school and how that led Shaun to creating a full scale musical that fits inside a ship in Pittsburg.

I also do some blathering about the loss of Prince and his importance to my work.  And I let you in on some of my other ‘secret mentors’.

Today’s show is sponsored by:

Anything Goes Vermont – Unique handmade goods for your favorite pirate.

Plus comedy from Robert Duchaine and of course, music from “A Pirate’s Tale”. Plus I’ll play you one of my own songs that was thoroughly inspired by Prince.

UTC 037 – Irish Pirate Rock Band O’Craven

Irish Pirate Rock Band O'CravenO’Craven is a great band with the extremely specific niche of Irish Pirate Rock, from San Jose, CA.  In this interview we dig into how they stumbled across the music they were meant to be playing.  We also talk a lot about how being way different from most bands has helped them stand out in a positive way.

Bonus! Since the band and I are in the same town, I finally got to do an in-person interview!  Thankfully I thought ahead enough to get video of the proceedings too. And since I had video of the interview, I figured I’d film my talky parts before and after the interview too, just for fun.

If you like the video stuff, let me know and I’ll do more of it.  Definitely hoping to do some at the NorCal Pirate Festival in June.  Our favorite Irish Pirate rockers will be there too!

Plus comedy from Irish comedian Dave Nihill (There’s a theme? Yes!) and of course, music from O’Craven.  You’ll hear a song called “Pint Glass” and I’ll explain in the show why I picked that one.

UTC 036 – Historian and Author Benerson Little

Historian, Author, Black Sails Consultant Benerson LittleBenerson Little is the author of five non-fiction books on piracy and sea roving plus a novel with sequels to come. He’s considered a leading expert of piracy past and present, and is the historical consultant for Black Sails on the Starz network.  He’s also a former Navy Seal and fencing expert.

If there’s anyone that’s got all his pirate bases covered, Ben is that guy.  We dig into some of his many books, his thoughts on Black Sails, plenty of fencing stuff, and more.  This show is chock full and I still feel like we barely got to enough stuff.

Grab yourself some of Benerson Little’s books with the Amazon links below and help support the show.
