UTC 144 Faith Pierce of Finding Your Neverland

Faith Pierce of Finding Your Neverland
Maybe you like a good camp out.  And I know you like pirate stuff.  So how about Pirate Camp!

Faith Pierce runs Finding Your Neverland, a pirate-themed summer camp for adults and families. It’s a great 3-day getaway that Faith has designed as a digital detox from your regular life.

She’ll tell us the story of how she got there and everything you can expect when you get there.

Under The Crossbones is a podcast all about pirate culture.  Your host Phil Johnson (comedian, musician, and pirate geek) interviews the most interesting people in the pirate subculture: Actors, Authors, Historians, Musicians, Artists, Festival Founders, Clothing and Prop Designers, Treasure Hunters, Archaeologists, and more.

UTC 143 Bradley Rodgers on the Bermuda Shipwreck

Bradley Rogers Bermuda Shipwreck Easter Carolina University

A week or so ago I saw a press release about a new privateer shipwreck being worked on in Bermuda.  And the head of the project, Bradley Rodgers of Eastern Carolina University’s Maritime Studies Department, was nice enough to let me interrupt his vacation to tell you about it.

Some really interesting stuff here about how they decided why privateer vs pirate, how they can tell what country the ship belonged to, and how the early settlers of Bermuda benefited from the shipwreck.

And we dig into artifact conservation and dealing with various ownership issues around the Bermuda shipwreck too.  Fun and educational, this one!

UTC 142 Robin Flanagan of Crimson Pirates and Chris Leidenfrost of The Greatest Pirate Story Never Told

Robin Flanagan and Chris Leidenfrost

We’ve been doing a lot with the arts recently and I love it!  On today’s show we have Robin Flanagan from Crimson Pirates and Chris Leidenfrost of The Greatest Pirate Story Never Told.

We’ll dig into how to Crimson Pirates sort of accidentally came to be.  And after Chris joined, how he went into spin-off mode with The Greatest Pirate Story Never Told.

Lots of music, improv, and arts management talk in this one.  Super fun!

(Side note… Sorry about the little bits of audio weirdness in this episode.  Not sure what happened, but I tried to even everything out as much as possible.)
