Daniel Bjorkbacka aka Joe Blackheart is the founder and banjo player of Sweden’s Pat Razket.

We dig into the band’s background as a party and wedding band, the idea to become pirates, and the moment that convinced them to have a great show but also work harder on their music.

And work harder, they have!  Their 2nd album Deeds and Debts is fantastic.  And you can get it right here:

Ray Arnoult is the owner of Pirate Guitar Effects out of New Orleans/Wichita.  Guitars AND pirates?  Yeah!

We talk about growing up in New Orleans and how that affects a child’s musical experiences.  We’ll find out how Ray is making his company stand out in a the very crowded guitar effect market.  And we’ll find out the flag of Republic of Bimini was pretty darn violent.

Plenty of guitar talk too.  I’ve got you non-guitarists covered with a little edumacation at the top of the show so you can follow along. More info below.  Be sure to check out all the videos for sound samples of the stuff we’re talking about.

And why am I in the closet this week?

Alrighty, let’s get your learned up on what all this stuff sounds like. Check out the videos below to hear all the stuff we talk about in the show. First up, of course, is the Pirate Guitar Effects Plank pedal. (There’s no video for the Peg Leg yet.)

Talking about Eddie van Halen’s “brown sound”, here’s a video of Eddie himself talking about his tone, some performance examples, and other amazing guitarists talking about the impact it had on them.

Let’s take a little dive into the Klon Centaur. You can read more about it here.

Next up, the Echoplex EP3. Read more about that one here.

Here’s a bit about Variacs and how they work. Essentially it’s about getting the same tone from the amp at a lower volume.

May I introduce you to the majesty that is the Marshall Plexi amp. Read more about their history and impact here.

And finally the Ampeg SVT. That I hope to never have to haul down the stairs into a basement night club ever again.
