A week or so ago I saw a press release about a new privateer shipwreck being worked on in Bermuda. And the head of the project, Bradley Rodgers of Eastern Carolina University’s Maritime Studies Department, was nice enough to let me interrupt his vacation to tell you about it.
Some really interesting stuff here about how they decided why privateer vs pirate, how they can tell what country the ship belonged to, and how the early settlers of Bermuda benefited from the shipwreck.
And we dig into artifact conservation and dealing with various ownership issues around the Bermuda shipwreck too. Fun and educational, this one!
